5th Annual PJ Party Rallies Support

Hundreds of pajama-clad party-goers celebrated success at the 5th Annual PJ Party on January 28th, to benefit Denver’s Road Home- Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s 10-year-plan to end homelessness.
More than $860-thousand was raised throughout the week leading up to the PJ Party! That’s a new record.
PJ Day benefits the homeless in our community and reminds all of us that not everyone has a place to put on their pajamas and go to bed at night.
Mayor Hickenlooper donned his signature red nightshirt at the PJ Party, hosted by the Residence Inn in Downtown Denver. He thanked the growing number of corporate and individual donors who made the 5th Annual PJ Party a resounding success.
PJ Day is the annual, major fundraiser for Denver’s Road Home. The monies raised help to support the critical safety net of homeless services in Denver like emergency shelter, substance abuse counseling and transitional housing- to name just a few. Mile High United Way is proud to partner with Denver’s Road Home in providing long term solutions to the important issue of adult and family self-sufficiency.
Thank you to the committed and compassionate corporate and individual donors, volunteers and community members for making PJ Day so successful!

Volunteer Opportunities
Project Homeless Connect
This one-day event connects the community to the homeless and connects the homeless to services. Homeless guests can access housing, healthcare, job placement, education and training, and other community-wide resources in one location to alleviate the burden of searching for services on their own. Volunteers work one-on-one with the homeless to guide them through the process and assist them in finding the needed services. This event takes place every six months and more information is available on our website at www.DenversRoadHome.org.
Mentor a Family
Get your congregation, temple, parish or synagogue involved with the Mayor’s plan to end homelessness. Mentoring teams are an integral part of the Family and Senior Homeless Initiative (FSHI) program. They provide relational, physical and spiritual support to participating families. With the number of families in need right now, we need your help!
Adopt a Meter
Denver’s Road Home launched the Donation Meter Project in the spring of 2007 and now has 86 meters online that are collecting change for this project. Since implementation of Denver’s Road Home, panhandling on the 16th Street Mall is down 92 percent. Denver’s Road Home adopts the meters out at $1,000 per meter per year and the project is generating approximately $100,000 in revenue annually for Denver’s Road Home. The donation meter program is designed to increase awareness about our plan to end homelessness, and it is also an effort to redirect the money given to panhandlers.
“The donation meter demonstrates yet another innovative way in which this community is responding to Denver’s Road Home and our commitment to ending homelessness” – Mayor Hickenlooper. Information about all of these opportunities can be found online at www.DenversRoadHome.org.

We believe that by working together, we can, and will, solve homelessness. Entering into our fifth year, our progress is remarkable. We have been asked lately if the economy is going to impact the progress we are making to end homelessness as we know it in ten years. To this we say that we have never been more determined to move this initiative forward. Just look at the numbers:
In the past four years in partnership with this community we have developed over 1,500 new units of housing for the homeless. |
We have prevented over 2,232 families from becoming homeless and 3,278 homeless people have obtained employment. |
The faith community continues to stand by our side, and four years later, we can proudly say that we have mentored 564 families out of homelessness in partnership with one another. |
In partnership with Mile High United Way we have achieved our aggressive fundraising goal of $46.1 million dollars in the first four years of the plan. |
And, in the midst of one of our most challenging economic climates, we have 500 new units of affordable housing in the pipeline that will be developed over the next two years! Your support is critical for us to continue this important work. |
Together, we can end homelessness in Denver in the next 10 years, making Denver a better place to live, for everyone. Make a tax-deductible investment in our community today!
