Making A Difference
Women’s Leadership is investing in a better future for our community.
- Contributing more than $8 million per year to Mile High United Way.
- Participating in hands-on volunteer opportunities.
- Offering educational networking opportunities.
Women’s Leadership at Work
Mile High United Way’s Women’s Leadership actively supports the Brunetti Lofts and Bridging the Gap programs.
- Brunetti Lofts is a transformational housing program which allows struggling families to pay a discounted rent, which goes toward savings for a future down payment on a home. Residents are required to take classes in financial planning and home ownership, so after five years of living at Brunetti Lofts, they’ll have the education and the assets to buy their first home.
- Bridging the Gap is a program that helps foster youth successfully transition into adulthood. Youth who “age out,” or emancipate, from the foster care system typically do not have the skills and resources to make it on their own.
Women’s Leadership Benefits
- Members are invited to many networking events such as quarterly Lunch and Learn events.
- Members enjoy regular volunteer opportunities to share their time and talents with those in need.
- Members are encouraged to attend the Annual Women’s Leadership Luncheon to celebrate their successes.

Program 12:00 noon - 1:30 p.m.
Hyatt Denver Convention Center
Keynote Presenter:
Jeannette Walls,
Best-Selling Author of The Glass Castle
In The Glass Castle, Walls describes growing up in the desert of the American Southwest and then in a West Virginia mining town with her three siblings and the brilliant, unorthodox, irresponsible parents who manage at once to neglect them, love them, and teach them to face their fears.
The story is at times harrowing and at times hilarious as the children go without food and indoor plumbing yet are encouraged to read Shakespeare and dream of the beautiful glass house they will all one day build. Despite all her hardships, Walls develops the determination to leave West Virginia on her own at the age of sixteen, move to New York City, enroll in Barnard College and eventually become a well-known columnist for New York Magazine and MSNBC.com.

Youth Mentoring Tops Lunch and Learn Menu
“Youth mentoring can change lives,” says Dave Stalls. And, he should know. As President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, Stalls sees first-hand the impact a caring adult can have in a young person’s life.
Stalls delivered his message to Mile High United Way’s Women’s Leadership at the May Lunch and Learn. He shared heart-warming stories from the mentoring program at Big Brothers Big Sisters. He also talked about Mile High United Way’s Youth Success Initiative and how it is transforming lives of young people across metro Denver.
Check out the video from the Lunch and Learn to learn more about Youth Success and youth mentoring.
