Mile High United Way is uniquely positioned to understand the most pressing needs in our community:
We understand our community’s most critical needs because we listen to more than 151,000 people each year who contact our 2-1-1 call center for help. Over the last 3 years the calls to 2-1-1 have increased 30%. Our 2-1-1 call center takes an average of 10,000 calls a month asking for help with rental assistance, food and keeping the lights on. |
We are the only organization that works with families, neighborhoods, service organizations and advocates to enact lasting change. |
Last year, in an open RFP process, we received 280 requests for $33 million from non-profit organizations, far exceeding the $6.5 million of available funds. |
In 2010, Mile High United Way raised more than$38 million of which over 85% was invested directly into the community. |
We are focused on 3 needs that provide a continuum of services to our community – School Readiness, Youth Success, and Adult Self-Sufficiency. |
School Readiness - We invest in programs that get children reading at the third grade level by third grade because we know, children who start behind stay behind. |
Youth Success: 50% of students in Denver do not graduate. We support proven strategies like mentoring and afterschool programs that keep students in school and increase high school graduation rates. |
Adult Self-Sufficiency: 60% of Denver’s homeless are families with children. We devote resources to programs that help low-income people increase financial skills, develop workforce experience and move toward economic self-sufficiency. |
We work with over 200 local nonprofit partners, government and businesses to deliver services to the three key areas of investment. |
