Give your students the best chance to succeed.

Mile High United Way manages the implementation of Colorado Reading Corps, a program that supports kindergarten through third grade students in four school districts across the state, to increase reading proficiency. The program places AmeriCorps members in classrooms for one school year to provide one-on-one tutoring to students reading below grade level. Tutors provide targeted reading skill practice, commonly called interventions, primarily in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency.

What sets Colorado Reading Corps apart?

Building Relationships with Students
One-on-one reading interventions are provided by AmeriCorps members to increase reading proficiency and help students build confidence in the classroom.

Academic Progress
94% of students made academic progress.

Fostering Success
On average, 82% of students are exceeding target growth rates.

Coaching Support
Colorado Reading Corps uses a coaching model where there are frequent observations and coaching to ensure the program and interventions are implemented with fidelity.

Data Driven Model
Tutors conduct a quick, 1-minute assessment every week with each student to track and share their progress.

“Colorado Reading Corps has made a positive impact on student achievement this school year. At the beginning of the school year the master coaches provided appropriate training for the tutors and the internal coaches to be successful. The master coaches support the internal coaches and the tutors with monthly data meetings and throughout the year. The program closely monitors students learning and the dedicated tutors provide interventions that create opportunities for students to learn and grow. Colorado Reading Corps has benefited our students, staff and community by supporting students in shaping their own successful futures.”
