Thank You For Running the Turkey Trot!
THANK YOU for making the 42nd annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot one of the most enjoyable we’ve had to date! On Thanksgiving morning, we saw more than 5,000 participants brave the snow and cold temperatures to attend one of Denver’s greatest Thanksgiving traditions. The snow never let up, but neither did the runners, making for yet another fun and festive event in a beautiful, snow-covered Washington Park.
Because of you, we raised $450,000 that will go to improve childhood literacy, high school graduation rates and economic self-sufficiency for individuals and families. This Thanksgiving tradition and Mile High United Way thrives through your involvement, and we are very grateful to you.
Prior to the race, our runners were able to keep warm by enjoying complimentary hot coffee from Marley Coffee, as well as music, entertainment, and a beautiful national anthem sung by Rebekah Glad to start us off. From there, runners walked, ran, and trotted their way to a bustling Finish Village lined with everything from food and drinks to clothing vendors and, ultimately, the complimentary Great Divide Beer Garden!
Each year, the race attracts nearly 10,000 runners; typically, about 15 percent of these runners register on race day. Due to a snowy Thanksgiving Day and temperatures below freezing, the race saw much lower day-of registration numbers.
For those who weren’t able to make it to the Turkey Trot this year, but still want to give back to the community, Mile High United Way is encouraging the public to donate $45, the cost for one registration, at unitedwaydenver.org/donate.
Money raised by Mile High United Way’s Turkey Trot is invested in programs that ensure children enter school ready to succeed; children are reading at or above grade level by the end of third grade; young people graduate from high school ready for post-secondary education or entry into the workforce; and individuals and families have their basic needs met and are afforded every opportunity to move toward economic success.
